Father Junipero Serra was born in 1743 and died in 1784. He was a Spanish priest. He was also a roman catholic and a friar. A few hours after he was born he was baptized. His parents were married in 1707. He was granted the title"Apostle of California". When he was seven he was already working in the fields helping his parents with chores like, cultivating wheat and beans and tend to the cattle. He attended a friar's primary school learning, mathematics, reading, handwriting, Latin, religion, and liturgical music, especially Gregorian chant. On September 14, 1730,two months before his 17th birthday,he joined the Franciscan Order at Palma.
